  1. Just a little something I learnt from thevirt’s spring tutorial that I don’t think is mentioned here, but really helped me a lot. Having a smooth spring isn’t so much shooting the cards by APPLYING pressure, but rather having built up pressure (by bowing the deck) and letting the cards shoot out on their own by RELEASING that built up pressure.

  2. I spent about 3 weeks ago now…about 8 hours while visiting family practicing this. I got it down. However, it was nice seeing a very detailed tutorial on the actual grip, as I now have a new way to practice. THANKS! Anybody else get pain in the thumb area? lol….

  3. Good explanation, but make sure to also check out the virts tutorial, as a complementing reference.
By the way has anyone noticed that he doesn’t keeps his thumb on the middle of the deck(in the picture)?

  4. What are the pros/cons of springing the cards off the fingers? This is the way I learned to spring cards originally. I have noticed many people spring off the thumb however…. but am not exactly sure why this is the case. Perhaps it is just a style preference?

BTW, this Academy idea is awesome. I was watching the pressure fan video and am starting to have hope that I might one day get this move down.

    • Jason, being able to spring the cards off your fingers will help with such flourishes as a Pressure Fan and Under Pressure. It will also help with the Anti-Faro – a highly advanced move for reverse shuffling the cards. The only downside is that it doesn’t look as esthetically pleasing as if sprung off the thumb.

  5. I new before this how to spring cards (I thought). I was just going to watch this to get some tips on pointer on spring cards. Once I saw this I knew I used to spring cards wrong and now by watching this it is 100 times better. They give step by step details on how to springs card . They also told tips and pointers. Before watching this I new did/learned how to spring cards of the conners but now it leaned at it is the only type of springing I do! Thanks Dan and Dave!!!

  6. when starting out, actually touch the index finger of the catching hand to the middle finger of the springing hand. this creates a perfect distance and directs the cards into the catching hand without much room for error. once you can get all the cards to land in the catching hand and not all over the floor, begin adding distance between the hands. if done properly, cards that dont land correctly cant travel very far.
